January 27, 2007 Camelback vs. Northern Arizona Landsharks
There was good overall play from the club this past weekend, as both the First XV and the Second XV improved their records to 2-0. In the early game, Camelback saw good loose forward play early with Sione finishing off a scoring attempt with a try in the corner. Overall, forward mobility was strong during the course of the game with exceptional play by rookie sensation Phat Pat Garry and his counterpart (in name, not position) Patrick Benedict. Phat Pat was dynamic with strong running and passing througout, and he and Swartz combined in the second row to provide a strong drive. Benedict was all over the field providing great field coverage in defense as well as some blinding sideline hits.
In the backline, speed, experience, and brute force proved to be too much for the Landshark defense. Seth Bradley and Adam Steuter combined with some exciting passing combinations that were capitalized on by Brockett "the Rocket". New to the Camelback roster, Tinny Moala was a little too much to tackle for the Landsharks, particularly late in the game. If we can see some passing from this guy, he will definitely be one of the top centers around.
The first game concluded with Camelback on top with a final score of 24-3.
For the second week in a row, the Second XV held their opposition scoreless. Strong defense was played all around, with Steve Snyder and David Perez tackling with authority. Also key in the defense was Jason Hutzler, running all over the field, demonstrating that being in good shape allows for better rugby. Lucas Flax earned the honor of Man of The Match, with some exeptional catching of kicks and strong running. Mike Johnson, his brother Zack Johnson, and Axel Anderson all showed strong running and ball retention skills off the rucks and mauls, also helping to keep the Landsharks scoreless. Shawn Johnson demonstrated his versatility by playing in the backline at center rather than his usual position of flanker where he has played well all pre-season. Shawn also captained the side to the victory. No one was more versatile, however, than Adrian "Twinkle Toes" Enache (Prop) who played at fly-half throughout the game...except maybe Coach Frank Boyce who played some scrum-half during the game.
When all the dust settled during the match, the final score was Camelback 10-Landsharks 0. Keep up the good work Camelback!!!
